Yuri Nalesso

AI Engineer — Milan, Italy

Yuri Nalesso.

Give me a hard problem and the right constraints — I'll find the architecture, the stack, and the shortest path to production. Lately, that path runs through agentic AI.

About me

I don't start with a favorite technology; I start with the problem. That's taken me from unsupervised neural networks for ECG anomaly detection to clinical NLP pipelines on AWS Comprehend Medical to multi-region cloud platforms — choosing Java, Python, or Go as the job demands. Machine learning has been part of my work since long before the current wave: an AWS ML – Specialty certification, MIT Sloan's AI in health care program, and ML models running in real systems.

Today I lead with an AI-first SDLC: LLMs integrated into code generation, automated debugging, and architecture validation — adopted where they measurably help, dropped where they don't. I'm building with agentic patterns on LangChain and OpenAI APIs: agents that act inside designed, validated boundaries instead of freewheeling. That skeptical engineering is the point — the tools will keep changing, and the discipline of verifying output and owning the architecture is what makes AI actually ship.

Since September 2026 I've been doing that full-time at Circeus, the AI-native holding company for mission-critical software: a Senior AI Engineer on the group's central AI team, building agentic use cases across its portfolio companies and head office, so what proves itself in one business compounds across the next.

What I'm doing

  • AI Engineering

Designing and shipping agentic AI systems and LLM-powered use cases, from product features to head-office automation.

  • Cloud Architecture

Architecting and implementing robust, multi-cloud solutions on AWS, GCP, and OCI for high availability and performance.

  • DevOps

Automating infrastructure and streamlining deployments with Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • ML & GenAI

Building and deploying machine learning models and generative AI solutions to extract insights and drive innovation.

Professional Experience

  1. Sep 2026 – Present Milan, Italy

    Senior AI Engineer

    Circeus

    • Use cases across the group: Part of the central AI team implementing AI use cases across the portfolio — agentic features in product, customer-experience automation, and developer productivity — working embedded with the business units while each company keeps building locally.
    • Head-office enablement: Building AI agents and automations for corporate functions, from finance and HR to legal and operations.
    • Shared AI layer: Strengthening the reusable foundation — evaluation, security, and repeatable patterns — so what proves itself in one company can be adopted by the next.
  2. Mar 2026 – Aug 2026 Milan, Italy

    Tech Lead

    Xenia Reply

    • Leading the technical architecture and delivery of a secure, multi-tenant enterprise platform, managing system integrations (e.g., HL7, mTLS) and coordinating cross-functional teams to meet strict SLAs.
    • Introducing an AI-first Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), integrating AI coding tools and LLMs to accelerate code generation, automate debugging, and validate architecture design.
    • Designed scalable cloud infrastructures and automated CI/CD pipelines, enforcing strong DevSecOps practices, security governance (WAF, EDR, IAM), and observability (Grafana, Chronicle).
  3. Apr 2023 – Feb 2026 Milan, Italy

    Senior Solution Engineer

    Xenia Reply

    • Cloud Architecture & Leadership: Architected a highly available, multi-region microservices infrastructure on GCP for the PNRR-funded Regional Telemedicine Platform (PRT), coordinating cross-functional teams and external vendors (Google PSO, LDO, Atlantica).
    • Healthcare Interoperability: Led the technical integration of complex clinical data flows (HL7, CDA), regional identity providers (SPID/CIE, Keycloak), digital signature systems, and medical IoT devices.
    • Security & DevOps: Secured sensitive patient data (PHI) by implementing WAF, mTLS, and EDR solutions, while optimizing CI/CD pipelines on Jenkins to separate build and deploy phases across environments cleanly.
    • Infrastructure Optimization: Engineered Kubernetes-based service communication, migrating service discovery from Eureka to Consul and implementing horizontal autoscaling for peak performance.
    • Additional Projects: Designed an AWS serverless Mass Casualty Incident platform for an EIT project, automated multi-cloud provisioning (Terraform), and integrated a secure SEPA payment module for the Banca d'Italia.
  4. Jan 2022 – Mar 2023

    Software Engineer

    • Built a data analysis pipeline using AWS Athena and Comprehend Medical to extract structured clinical insights from large volumes of unstructured patient documents.
    • Initiated the architectural transition of a telemedicine platform to microservices and a cross-platform Flutter app, significantly improving application performance and scalability.
    • Led the migration of on-premise infrastructure to a cloud-native Kubernetes environment on AWS and OCI, improving system reliability and reducing operational overhead.
  5. Jul 2019 – Dec 2021 Milan, Italy

    Full-Stack Developer

    Healthy Reply

    • Designed, developed, and deployed new user-facing features for the Ticuro telemedicine web platform and its native Android application.
    • Engineered the real-time data integration of Bluetooth (BLE) medical devices (e.g., pulse oximeters, ECGs), enabling the platform's core remote patient monitoring capabilities.
